What does Veteran Home Mods do?

Veteran Home Mods LLC provides home accessibility and environmental-modification evaluations. We assess how a person moves through and uses their home, identify safety and access barriers, and recommend practical modifications that support safety, independence, and dignity. Learn more on our Services page.

Who are your services for?

We work with veterans, older adults, people living with disabilities or neurological conditions, people recovering from injury or illness, and the families and caregivers who support them. We also work with case managers, agencies, and funding programs that need an independent evaluation.

Who performs the evaluation?

Evaluations are performed by Antonio Figueroa, a New York State-licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) with Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) and Executive Certificate in Home Modifications (ECHM) credentials. He brings more than a decade of clinical experience supporting daily living, wheelchair mobility, and assistive-device use. Veteran Home Mods is a veteran-owned business.

What happens during a home evaluation?

We visit the home and look at how daily routines actually happen. That typically includes:

  • Entering and leaving the home, including steps, thresholds, and doorways
  • Bathroom use, bathing, and transfers
  • Moving through hallways, bedrooms, and living areas, including with mobility devices
  • Kitchen access and everyday tasks
  • Lighting, flooring, and fall risks
  • Caregiver needs and the equipment the person uses

We also take measurements so recommendations fit the actual space.

What do I receive afterward?

You receive a written report with prioritized safety and accessibility concerns, room-by-room recommendations, and measured details that support planning. Depending on the program or request, this can include a modification scope and cost considerations to help compare options.

Do you do the construction?

Our focus is the evaluation: identifying what is needed, why, and how it should fit the person and the home. An independent evaluation helps make sure modifications match real needs rather than a product or a sales pitch. Where a program requires it, we can review contractor bids against the recommended scope and assess the finished work.

Can you help with funding?

We can’t guarantee funding, but our evaluations are designed to support funding requests. We provide guidance on potential funding pathways, including VA home-modification programs, and our reports document the functional need behind each recommendation. Our free Home Accessibility & Safety Guide includes an overview of VA funding options.

How long does an evaluation take?

Most in-home visits take one to two hours, depending on the size of the home and the person’s needs. We’ll give you a clearer estimate when we schedule.

Should I get an evaluation before or after a health change?

Either. Some people plan ahead to age in place; others need changes quickly after a hospital stay, new diagnosis, or fall. An evaluation is useful any time daily life at home has become harder or less safe.

How is my personal and health information handled?

Information about your home and health is used only for your evaluation and shared only with parties involved in your evaluation or funding, as described in our Privacy Policy. Please don’t send medical records through the website’s contact form; we’ll arrange a secure way to receive them if needed.
